![]() In the past, other resorts decorate your room door, do fun things with the towels, leave you nice things in the room. I found that most of the staff at the Secrets property were indeed on "island time." When checking in, the staff asked if we were celebrating anything special, to which i indicated that we were, an anniversary to be exactly. I have no problem tipping staff who do a good job or are willing to work. I found this to be extremely disrespectful. In one interaction in particular, the bellman who handled our bags actually stuck his hand out to me in a gesture for a tip before i could even get money out. However, the staff almost expected a tip, no matter what their interaction with you was. Now it is customary at some of these resorts to tip the staff, Secrets is no different. In hindsight, we should have purchased the cheaper room and enjoyed the Preferred Club perks. Again, no one stopped and questioned us as to if we were preferred members. Preferred Club members also had access to Breathless resort, which is right behind the St. When we asked for the alcohol, we paid for, we were refused at multiple bars, told it was whatever they had, and basically had to get it ourselves from the preferred lounge. We paid for Preferred, which entailed top shelf alcohol and access to every facet of the resort, to include the Breathless side. All guests seemingly had access to Preferred Club amenities, so it was pointless to pay for a preferred room. Neither property had such a place.ĭo you choose Preferred Club or not? In all honesty, they didn't once check to see if we were a preferred guest. Normally, a coffee shop that converts into an ice cream stand. Every resort we've stayed at had some form of late-night dessert spot, which always included ice cream. Even the meat they tried to pass off for a burger was inedible. it just seemed like the quality of the products they used was extremely low and although they attempted to decorate it up, they just couldn't hide the poor quality. We also had a decent meal at the rooftop restaurant on the Breathless side, but that's it. The only food we found to be decent was the breakfast buffet. Even hibachi, which seems to be a staple at these resorts, was awful. When served our meal at the Italian restaurant, we were immediately met with the stench of rotten fish and my wife’s ravioli were also uneatable. There honestly wasn't a restaurant at this property that had food which was even remotely edible. They just seemed to rush us along so they could feed more patrons. the staff seemed nonchalant about it, not even asking if i wanted a replacement meal. The first night we went to dinner, i found multiple bones in the fish dish. I mean, i get it, I fully expect food for the masses when staying at a resort such as this, but the food here was beyond terrible. The overall dining experience was absolutely atrocious. ![]() However, this is where the pleasantries end. Just something to think about when deciding which resort to book. James side, but that didn't really bother my wife or me. If you want to be close to any of the restaurants and/or nightly activities, then you will want to stay on the Wild Orchid side of the resort. You could order room service, see restaurants times, book spa treatments pretty much anything you desired to do could be done through the tablet. The tablet in the room was also a nice touch. The oversized hot tub on the balcony was an unexpected surprise and extremely nice. James has a walking bridge that connects it to the Breathless resort as well, which is only accessible for Preferred members. They are essentially located on the farthest end of each resort, respectively. James Preferred Club room, to which both resorts have the same. The rooms were very nicely appointed and updated. James and Wild Orchid collectively encompass a very beautiful and sprawling property, well-appointed with flowers, trees and lush tropical plants. We hope this helps anyone wishing to stay here and decide if it's right for you!įirst and foremost, let me start by saying that this isn't a bash piece whatsoever. So, we figured we'd write a review on our most recent trip to Secrets, St. My wife and I travel quite a few times a year and always read reviews on resorts that we wish to stay at prior to booking.
